Präsentation, Reflexion, schriftliche Prüfung. Workshop Akzente mit Diskussionen und Austausch über Spieleerfahrungen.
Inhalt/e
Wie nähern sich die Computerspiele dem menschlichen Geist? Welchen Zugang haben SpielerInnen? Gefühle, Bedürfnisse und mehr.
Intendierte Lernergebnisse
Students will acquire insights into selected psychological functions, effects and human mind mechanisms. They will develop a deeper self-awareness and contextualised understanding of human doings, presented and offered through various game titles within their design elements and stories. Suggested perspectives will offer an additional approach to videogames.
Lehrmethodik inkl. Einsatz von eLearning-Tools
This class will have a slight workshop character, based on active participation of all students. Personal stories, emotions and the sharing of gaming experiences are essential elements. A supportive, safe and cooperative atmosphere is mandatory and the students are expected to contribute. Lecture inputs lead to general collaborative group discussions.
Presentations: Focusing on specific components of humans in video games, Q&A afterwards.
Reflection paper & written examination
Inhalt/e
How do video games approach the human mind? How do we play games? Needs, music, identity, motivation and the players states are important issues. Accessibility will also be addressed.
Attention! This class is going to deal with sensitive issues concerning gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, and class. Mental constitutions, effects and impulses will be addressed. At least in some sessions.
Attention! Due to organizational stuff, the attendance of the first session is compulsory.

40% - Schriftliche Reflexion (700 Worte min.), Präsentation (plus Zusammenfassung, 1000 Worte pro Person)

Prüfungsmethode/n
Written examination (multiple choice questions and open answer questions.)
Reflection paper. Chicago Manual of Style (16th edition, author/date) is expected for all written work, or else a paper is rejected.
Student presentations. Presentations will be graded individually for every participant or team-member. Q&A session affect all individual grades equally. A write-up of the presentation, including discussion and further conclusions, must be uploaded within two weeks (1000 words per person).

Individual reflection paper (between 700 and 1000 words).
Written examination (during the last session of the semester, 27.01.2020) about the theoretical topics discussed in the course
