Intendierte Lernergebnisse
This course aims at familiarising students with post-colonial literature through the reading and analysis of selected representative texts in light of postcolonialism and the postcolonial theory. At the end of this course, students will have developed a critical understanding of postcolonialism in literature and will be able to interpret literary texts in the field in line with postcolonial literary criticism.

Lecture, class discussions.
In the examination of the texts, which will cover novels, novellas and play texts, we will look at how cultural identity, ethnicity, gender, race, language and power are reflected by the leading writers representing postcolonial literature and discuss how these writers react to the discourse of colonisation.

*Focus on certain key concepts in postcolonial criticism

** Students are expected to obtain the texts themselves. All the material is available at the unversity library (excluding Foe, by Coetzee).
