Das Studium Informationsmanagement vermittelt Studierenden das notwendige Wissen, um EDV-gestützte Informationssysteme in Unternehmen und in zwischenbetrieblichen Netzwerken sowohl aus betriebswirtschaftlicher als auch informationstechnischer Perspektive zu managen. Sie erwerben Kompetenzen in grundlegenden betriebswirtschaftlichen Themenstellungen (z. B. Buchhaltung, Bilanzierung, Kostenrechnung, Investition und Finanzierung, Marketing, Produktions- und Logistikmanagement sowie Entrepreneurship) und können diese in der betrieblichen Praxis anwenden. Darüber hinaus vermittelt das Studium Kompetenzen in Programmierung, Datenbanken und Software Engineering und in spezifischen Wirtschaftsinformatikthemen. Insbesondere können Absolvetinnen und Absolventen bei der Einführung und Pflege von betrieblichen Informationssystemen mitwirken.
Sie lernen, Sicherheitsrisiken moderner IT-Systeme zu beurteilen und Lösungen zur Risikominimierung zu finden. Ihre Fertigkeiten im Netzwerkmanagement ermöglichen es ihnen, unternehmensübergreifende Informationsnetzwerke zu betreuen, Kenntnisse in Mathematik und Statistik runden das Kompetenzprofil ab. Sie sind damit in der Lage, Information und Informationssysteme sowohl aus technischen, ökonomischen, sozialen sowie rechtlichen Gesichtspunkten zu beurteilen.

Besonderheiten
Das Studium setzt sich aus Inhalten der Informatik sowie der Betriebswirtschaftslehre zusammen. Die gebundenen Wahlfächer bieten den Studierenden vertiefende Kurse im Bereich Recht, Betriebswirtschaftslehre, Mathematik sowie Volkswirtschaftslehre, Gender, Englisch als Wirtschafts- und Techniksprache, Soziologie und Technikfolgenabschätzung.
Die Bachelorarbeit kann auf Wunsch und nach Absprache mit dem zuständigen Betreuer/der Betreuerin auch auf Englisch verfasst werden.
Am Campus in Klagenfurt gibt es sehr gute Betreuungsverhältnisse, kleine Seminare und überschaubare Arbeitsgruppen. Hier finden Studierende schnell Freundschaften und Anschluss!

Studienziel
Studierende des Bachelorstudiums Informationsmanagement sorgen für das reibungslose Zusammenspiel zwischen der Systemtechnik und den Anwendungsbereichen bei der Nutzung betriebswirtschaftlicher Informationssysteme.
Sie sind in der Lage
- die Verantwortung für das gesamte interne Informationssystem inklusive der dafür notwendigen Informatiklösungen in Klein- und Mittelbetrieben zu übernehmen.
- Informationssysteme in Unternehmen zu designen, einzuführen, zu pflegen und weiterzuentwickeln.
- die genutzten Systeme an die wirtschaftlichen und technischen Rahmenbedingungen anzupassen und in diesem Sinne Entwicklungsprozesse projektmäßig zu begleiten.
- kleinere betriebliche Softwareapplikationen eigenständig zu entwickeln.

Berufsfeld
Absolventinnen und Absolventen finden ihr Hauptaufgabenfeld im Bereich des Designs, Aufbaus sowie der Wartung und Weiterentwicklung betrieblicher EDV-gestützter Informationssysteme und zwischenbetrieblicher Netzwerke mit dem Ziel diese aus betriebswirtschaftlicher als auch informationstechnischer Perspektive zu managen.
Aufgrund des großen wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Anteils des Studiums bietet sich eine Vielzahl von Tätigkeitsfeldern an, so etwa im Bereich
- der Produktion und Entwicklung Informationstechnischer Systeme.
- der IT-Dienstleistung und Softwareherstellung.
- dem Verkauf und der Vermarktung informationstechnischer Systeme.
- der öffentlichen Verwaltung, etwa bei der Wartung und Überwachung der genutzten Systeme.

Auslandsstudien
Im Rahmen des Bachelorstudiums Informationsmanagement wird gezielt die Mobilität von Studierenden gefördert. Durch den interkulturellen Austausch sowie durch den Erwerb von Sprachkenntnissen werden Absolventinnen und Absolventen bestmöglich auf Karrieren in einer globalisierten Wirtschaft vorbereitet. Es wird den Studierenden daher empfohlen ab dem 3. Semester, ein Semester an einer ausländischen Universität zu absolvieren.

Weiterführende Studien
Masterstudium Informationsmanagement

STEOP
Die Studieneingangs- und Orientierungsphase (STEOP) vermittelt den Studierenden einen Überblick über die wesentlichen Inhalte des Studiums und dessen weiteren Verlauf und schafft eine sachliche Entscheidungsgrundlage für die persönliche Beurteilung der Studienwahl. Die Lehrveranstaltungen der STEOP finden im ersten Semester statt und umfassen insgesamt 8 ECTS. Die STEOP besteht aus der Vorlesung „Einführung in die BWL“ (4 ECTS), der Vorlesung „Einführung in die Informatik I“ (1 ECTS) sowie dem Kurs „Einführung in die Informatik I“ (3 ECTS). Vor der vollständigen Absolvierung der Studieneingangs- und Orientierungsphase dürfen weiterführende Lehrveranstaltungen im Ausmaß von 22 ECTS absolviert werden.

Praktika
Das Bachelorstudium Informationsmanagement beinhaltet kein verpflichtendes Praktikum, es kann aber auf freiwilliger Basis eine selbstorganisierte Praxis im Rahmen der freien Wahlfächer abgeleistet werden. Über die Anerkennung dieser Praxis entscheidet die Studienprogrammleitung, die vor der Absolvierung konsultiert werden muss. Der Praxisbezug während des Bachelorstudiums erfolgt auf Basis von Lehrveranstaltungen durch Lektorinnen und Lektoren mit direktem Bezug zur Wirtschaft und anhand der Durchführung von Projekten mit praktischer Bedeutung.

Studienprofil
The Bachelor's degree programme Information Management establishes an interdisciplinary link between Business Administration contents and contents from the field of Informatics. It aims to impart the necessary tools to effectively manage modern computerized information and communication systems in businesses. The degree programme is comprised in four equal parts of economic subjects, principles of Informatics and software development (e.g. IT management, e-Business, and information systems), and supplementary subjects such as Mathematics, Statistics, or Business Law, or English communication and language skills. Practical experiences are contributed by lecturers with direct links to the industry, and are also acquired by working on projects. The degree programme offers students the opportunity to specialise either in the area of Business Administration or in the area of Information Management and operational information systems.

Besonderheiten
The degree programme comprises elements from the field of Informatics and from Business Administration. The restricted electives offer students specialisations in the areas of Law, Business Administration, Mathematics, as well as Economics, Gender, English as business and technology language, Sociology and Technology Assessment.
If desired and following consultation with the competent supervisor, the Bachelor thesis can be written in English.

Students completing the Bachelor's degree programme Information Management ensure the smooth interaction between the system technology and the areas of application in the context of the use of business management information systems.
They are well-equipped to
- accept the responsibility for the entire internal information system including the necessary Informatics solutions in small and medium-sized companies.
- design, introduce, maintain, and develop corporate information systems.
- adapt deployed systems to the economic and technical framework conditions and consequently to provide project-based support for development processes.
- independently develop small-scale software applications for businesses.

Berufsfeld
Graduates typically find their primary field of responsibilities in the design, construction, maintenance and development of computerised information systems in businesses and inter-company networks, with the aim to manage them effectively, both in terms of business administration and in terms of information technology.
Due to the significant business administration component of the degree program, graduates are ideally qualified for professional activities in a variety of fields, including
- the production and development of information technology systems.
- IT service provision and software production.
- the selling and marketing of information technology systems.
- in the public sector, for instance in the maintenance and monitoring of deployed systems.

Auslandsstudien
During the Bachelor of Information Management degree programme, emphasis is placed on promoting the mobility of the students. Through intercultural exchange and the acquisition of language skills, graduates are prepared in the best possible way for careers in a globalised economy. It is therefore recommended that students spend one semester at an international university after completing their third semester.
Through Erasmus+ and Joint Study programmes, students have the opportunity to study at a numerous partner universities in Europe and across the globe.

STEOP
The introductory orientation period (STEOP) provides students with an overview of the key content of the degree programme and its further progression, and provides an objective basis for making decisions with regard to the choice of programmes of study. The STEOP courses take place in the first semester and are worth a total of 8 ECTS. The STEOP consists of the lectures "Introduction to Business Administration" (4 ECTS) and "Introduction to Informatics I" (1 ETCS) and the course "Introduction to Informatics I" (3 ETCS). Prior to completing the introductory orientation period, additional courses worth up to 22 ECTS credits may be taken.

Praktika
The Bachelor's degree programme Information Management does not include a compulsory placement. However, students can voluntarily complete a self-organised placement within the scope of the free electives. The Programme Director considers and confirms the recognition of the placement, and must be consulted before the placement can commence. The practical relevance of the Bachelor's degree programme is established through courses taught by lecturers with close links to the industry, and through the implementation of practical projects.
