LV-Beschreibung

Intendierte Lernergebnisse

In this class the focus is on language education rather than language learning. In other words, attention will be drawn to culture- and identity-related issues and how they may impact language learning processes. Moreover, the aim of this class is to suggest a timely concept for language- and culture-learning in the light of a world increasingly shaped by globalization processes. In terms of content, both literary and non-literary texts will be discussed.

This course is project-based with a twin focus on theoretical concepts and concrete examples for classroom use.

Inhalt/e

The content of this course may include but is not limited to the following topics: 

  1. Identity construction and language learning;
  2. CLIL-teaching and inter/transcultural learning;
  3. Integrating language and cultural learning;
  4. Helping language teachers become (inter)cultural mediators;
  5. Discussing different paradigms for cultural learning (e.g., inter- and transculturality);
  6. Structuring experiential learning processes; and
  7. Working with literary texts.

Course materials will be made available to students as a reader on Moodle.

Prüfungsinformationen

Prüfungsmethode/n

(1) Regular attendance;

(2) Active participation;

(3) A written exam; and

(4) An independently produced Proseminar paper (3000 words).

(1) Active participation (Students need to come well-prepared to all sessions);

(2) Familiarity with the topics and theories discussed in class; and

(3) Applying theoretical concepts to self-selected texts/projects.
