Course Information
Intended learning outcomes

Variation, Fokus auf 'learning by doing'
Course content

Kurs 'Introduction to Communicative Language Teaching'
Literature
wird auf Moodle und im Kurs bereitgestellt
Intended learning outcomes
Students should become familiar with current didactic considerations on how to teach English in heterogeneous settings such as inclusive and multilingual classrooms. There will be space for critical reflections. The prerequisites for and potentials of learner autonomy in terms of differentiation, active knowledge construction and motivation will be looked into. At the same time, this course aims to create an understanding of the social dimensions of language learning and how those can be brought together with learner autonomy. Students should also develop a better understanding of the role of grammar in post-communicative language learning settings.

Various - putting into practice what is discussed theoretically
Course content
The focus will be on two concepts and their relevance for ELT: learner autonomy and social constructivism. Which conditions are necessary to foster learner autonomy, what does learner autonomy involve in terms of ELT, and how can it be helpful when it comes to learner differentiation?
While learner autonomy seems to be focused on the individual, proponents of social constructivism state the impact others have on our knowledge construction. How 'social' is our brain, and what does this mean for ELT? Can learner autonomy and social constructivism be brought together?
