Intendierte Lernergebnisse
[COURSE PREREQUISITE: a passing grade in Pronunciation AND Language Productive and Receptive Skills (BA) OR passing grades in the courses in MODULE ENC (Lehramt); check your curriculum and any curriculum updates to be sure.]
Students will have the opportunity to engage in frequent academic discussions. After conducting research on an approved topic, students will have the opportunity to conduct basic research and present their findings. Students will develop critical thinking skills and argumentation skills.
At a minimum, students are expected to know
- general presentation skills;
- academic vocabulary on a wide range of topics;
- how to express themselves in formal, academic settings;
- how to conduct general research on a narrowly defined topic; and
- how to synthesize information.
Inhalt/e
Students will research a topic within a framework set by the instructor and then present the results of the research.
Students will also prepare for and engage in class discussions and debates. Thematic classes will require students to read and watch course materials (available on Moodle) in order to inform critical, thoughtful debate. A wide variety of academic topics will be covered so that students will have ample practice to engage in formal, academic discussion in English
Literatur
Materials will be provided on Moodle. Students are expected to print out any necessary materials from Moodle.
No textbook is required for this course.
Prüfungsinformationen
Prüfungsinhalt/e
The oral examination topic will be provided to students a week before the final examination date. It will be related to topics covered throughout the semester.
Beurteilungskriterien/-maßstäbe
Students will be evaluated according to their performance on
- an oral examination (conducted in small groups of students at the end of term) and
- an interview presentation (a formal presentation including research and research findings).
