LV-Beschreibung

Intendierte Lernergebnisse

After the course, students should be able to

  • understand the interlinkages of the environmental crisis with social inequalities
  • differentiate between justice implications depending on different geographical contexts
  • identify different analytical dimensions of environmental and climate justice and apply them to different case studies
  • differentiate between movements’ and research perspectives on environmental justice and their interplay
  • draft a research proposal that applies an environmental justice perspective

Lehrmethodik inkl. Einsatz von eLearning-Tools

  • text discussion and group work
  • brief inputs by lecturers
  • presentations by students

Inhalt/e

People share and are affected by environmental burdens unequally, an insight that marked the beginning of the environmental justice movement in the 1970s in the US, mainly dealing with toxic wastes and hazardous industries. Since then, the thematic, geographical, and analytical scope in both movements and research has spread substantially. In the seminar, we discuss the history of the EJ movement in the US, identify commonalities and differences in Europe and the Global South as well as reflect on the most recent advancements with regard to climate justice.
