This seminar is for participants in the excursion to Canada 2019. Only students who join us for the trip will be able to receive a grade.

Course Information
Intended learning outcomes
Students will understand the development of the Canadian nation from its origins as settler community to its contemporary multicultural mosaic. They will be familiar with key events, personalities, and core concepts of Canadian studies. They will be able to critically situate and academically discuss elements of Canadian culture.
Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools
Lecture inputs, plenary discussion of theoretical and critical texts; student presentations. These will happen during a preparatory block of sessions, followed by the excursion to Canada (Toronto, Ottawa, Montréal). After our return, there will be a debriefing session.
Course content
Historical development of the Canadian nation. Introduction to Canadian studies.

Examination methodology
Active participation in discussions. Short student presentation and write-up during the semester, SE paper (4500 words) after the end of the semester.

Key events and personalities in Canadian history. The political system of Canada. Theories of Canadian studies.

Quality and quantity of information, precision and depth of analysis, quality of argument, quality of secondary sources used.
