Intendierte Lernergebnisse

On completing the course, students should be familiar with

the phonemes of English, primary focus will be on American English
intonation and other prosodic features
word and sentence stress
the IPA notation of the above and their realisation in an American standard
connected-speech phenomena: linking, reduction, pausing

Nach Abschluss des Kurses sollten die Teilnehmer mit folgenden Themen vertraut sein
die Phoneme des Englischen, der Schwerpunkt liegt auf dem amerikanischen Englisch.
Intonation und andere prosodische Merkmale
Wort- und Satzbetonung
die IPA-Notation des Vorstehenden und deren Umsetzung in eine amerikanische Norm
Phänomene der vernetzten Sprache: Verknüpfung, Reduktion, Pausieren

Lehrmethodik inkl. Einsatz von eLearning-Tools

Lecture, group work, individual work, extensive at-home practice

Inhalt/e

The course aims to improve the students' pronunciation skills (in American English) by increasing awareness and providing practice opportunities. Students are expected to commit to extensive at-home practice.

Topics to be covered in this course include but are not limited to:

IPA system
Word and phrasal stress
Intonation and other suprasegmental elements of English
Vowels and consonants, in isolation and in combination
Attitudes and obstacles in the acquisition of pronunciation

Der Kurs zielt darauf ab, die Aussprachefähigkeiten der Studenten (in amerikanischem Englisch) zu verbessern, indem er das Bewusstsein erhöht und Übungsmöglichkeiten bietet. Von den Schülern wird erwartet, dass sie sich zu Hause zu einer umfangreichen Praxis verpflichten.
Zu den Themen, die in diesem Kurs behandelt werden sollen, gehören unter anderem:
IPA-System
Wort- und Wortbetonung
Intonation und andere Elemente des Englischen Vokale und Konsonanten, einzeln und in Kombination
Einstellungen und Hindernisse beim Erwerb der Aussprache

The final exam is divided into two parts: text reading and freestyle speaking. Students must pass both parts of the exam in order to pass the course. The final exam is 70% of the final grade.

Die Abschlussprüfung gliedert sich in zwei Teile: Textlesen und Freestyle-Sprechen. Die Studenten müssen beide Teile der Prüfung bestehen, um den Kurs zu bestehen. Die Abschlussprüfung beträgt 70% der Gesamtnote.
