Intended learning outcomes
Die Lehrveranstaltung findet geblockt statt.
Students will be familiar with national film history and various aspects of a "typically British" and a "typically Italian" film genre (e.g. notions of national cultures and gender roles). They will also apply aspects of genre theory and film analysis.
Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools
lecture inputs and plenary discussions, close readings of selected film scenes.
Course content
definitions: genre, crime, horror, thriller, giallo; literary sources; history of thriller and giallo; directors: Alfred Hitchcock, Mario Bava, Dario Argento and others; detailed analysis of selected scenes (camera movement, editing, lighting, sound, etc.), suspense vs. surprise; functions of film music; colour symbolism, internationalisation, gender aspects

Assessment criteria / Standards of assessment for examinations
Die Studierenden müssen in jedem der drei Teilbereiche mindestens 50% der Leistung erreichen, um den Kurs positiv zu absolvieren. Folgende Teilleistungen sind zu erbringen
1. Die Seminararbeit (= 60% der Note). Die Frist für die Abgabe ist der 30.09.2019
2. Die Qualität der mündlichen Präsentation (= 30% der Note)
3. Aktive Teilnahme am Unterricht, z.B. in Diskussionen und Gruppenarbeiten.(= 10% der Note).
Anwesenheit: Die Studierenden dürfen maximal drei Sitzungen fehlen, ohne dass dies Auswirkung auf die Benotung hat.
