Intendierte Lernergebnisse
Students will have the opportunity to learn about how to find an appropriate BA thesis topic, conduct preliminary research to narrow the topic's focus, write clear research questions, and conduct in-depth research for their topic. Students will also have the opportunity to learn about others aspects of the writing process, including using academic vocabulary, avoiding bias, and improving English grammar. Students will gain extensive knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style guide and how to consult it to improve their writing.
Inhalt/e
Students will do the following in this course:
- brainstorm appropriate topics for a BA thesis
- write research questions to address these topics
- conduct research to narrow/broaden research focus
- analyze other BA theses for form, content, and methodology
- analyze thesis abstracts and write their own
- conduct extensive research to form the basis for a BA thesis
- write a bibliography according to the Chicago Manual of Style
Students are not expected to complete their thesis for a grade in this course. For students who will not be writing their thesis in this term, the above content objectives will be applied to a (pro)seminar paper or some other writing assignment in consultation with the course instructor.

All materials will be provided either online via Moodle or brought to class.

Students will be graded based on
1. one or more presentations on their thesis topic as well as any academic content decided upon in consultation with the instructor
2. a portfolio which reflects their written work collected over the course of the semester
3. their completion of in-class activities and participation in discussions
