Intended learning outcomes

The students will get a first overview about media, its functions and the changes of the media economy.

Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools

Lecture, discussion, groupwork, readings

Course content

Definition and history of media; Media as dual goods; Media companies in Austria and worldwide; Business models and value chains; Advertising and Key Performance Indicators (KPI); Media effects; Fake News and Filter Bubbles; Comparison of media systems; Changes and challenges within the media system and political communication.
