Intended learning outcomes
Tentative content of the course Principles of Business Management II:
- Business marketing processes (Ebert & Griffin, Chapters 11-13). Additional learning materials will be made available on the Moodle on-line learning system.
Topics: The marketing concept. The marketing environment. Understanding and analysing markets and market trends. Marketing strategies (Porter’s generic strategies). Segmentation, targeting and positioning (STP) process. The marketing mix. Designing products & services. Pricing and distributing products & services. Promoting products & services. Technology in marketing: E-marketing.
- Understanding fundamental accounting information and making basic financial decisions (Ebert & Griffin, Chapters 14-16).
Topics: The business performance. Fundamental accounting concepts. Understanding information from financial statements and annual reports. Options for financing a business venture. Money, risk and investment – basic terms.

Examination information
Examination methodology
Course evaluation of the course Principles of Business Management II:
Course evaluation will be based on a written exam (quiz), which comprises 50% of the grade. Another 25% of the grade will be based on an individual written assignment, related to the topics of managing the business marketing processes and understanding/applying information related to financial performance. The remaining 25% of the grade will be assigned on the basis of active class participation.
Assessment criteria / Standards of assessment for examinations
Course participation
Students are required to actively participate at classes and at the previously announced written exam & assignment. All students who are unable to do so, should advise lecturers in advance. Provided this is done in time, there will be an additional examination opportunity.
