Intendierte Lernergebnisse

After completing this course, students will be able:

  • Describe the major modes of scientific communication in psychology
  • Conduct targeted searches of the library database
  • Describe the content and structure of the standard research article
  • Read and critically evaluate English research articles
  • Concisely and accurately summarize and paraphrase information presented in English research articles
  • Articulate an original research idea in English (i.e., research topic, problem, and question)

 Define key psychological terminology in English

Lehrmethodik inkl. Einsatz von eLearning-Tools

This course will involve weekly seminars lasting between 60-75 minutes that incorporate:

  • Audio-visual presentations by the instructor
  • Discussions of research articles and other written resources
  • Mini-presentations from students
  • Practical, hands-on exercises (completed individually and in small groups)

Inhalt/e

With significant scientific globalization in the last half-century, English has become the dominant language of communication and information-sharing in psychology. In this course, students will develop foundational skills that are necessary for engaging with psychological research literature in English.

Literatur

Articles will be assigned by the instructor on a weekly or biweekly basis.

Prüfungsinhalt/e

Topics will be based on research articles drawn from various sub-disciplines in psychology. Whenever possible, students will be free to choose topics of personal interest to them.

Studentswill be given comprehensive evaluation schemes and/or rubrics for each of thecourse assignments.
