Intendierte Lernergebnisse
The course develops students’ comprehensive understanding of the cultural history of Europe and it promotes the students to understand the cultural diversity and cultural heritage of Europe. The course improves students’ ability to conduct independent Research.
Lehrmethodik inkl. Einsatz von eLearning-Tools
Active participation of students is required. Applied teaching methods: lecture; discussions; group works, presentation, writing assignment. The language of the instruction and assessment is English.
Inhalt/e
The course offers an introduction to the cultural history of Europe from the middle ages to the end of the 20th century. Students will understand the role of the diverse cultural, educational, social and ecclesiastical institutions and associations in forming European culture. The course also provides an overview of the significant art styles of Europe.
Topics:
Cultural heritage of Europe, historical roots and dimensions of the European identity.
The history of educational institutions in Europe.
The role of Christianity and the ecclesiastical institutions in forming European culture.
Art history, The history of architecture.
The changes in nourishment, clothing, hygiene and everyday life in European history. Cultural consequences of the major epidemics in Europe.
Geographical and scientific explorations. Cultural and economic consequences of the discoveries.
Migration in the European history.
The development of museums, libraries and the diverse cultural institutions of Europe.
The role of film, theatre, media and music in forming European culture.
The changes of city life in European history.
Mass culture and high culture in European cultural history.
Major ideologies, beliefs, intellectual and philosophical movements in European history.
