Intendierte Lernergebnisse
Rigorous understanding of the following concepts:
- Basic notions in difference equations and discrete dynamical systems
- order (stability, limit sets, bifurcations)
- chaos (in the sense of Devaney, Theorem of Li and Yorke, logistic map)

Inhalt/e
Difference equations are omnipresent in numerics, modelling and various other branches of mathematics. The course offers a modern introduction into their rich theory with a focus on discrete dynamical systems. Besides the basic theory, our leitmotiv are the concepts of Chaos and Order. In detail, we consider stability, bifurcations and provide an elementary introduction into a mathematically rigorous approach to chaos theory. Our prototype example will be the logistic map.
