Intended learning outcomes
Students should train their listening, speaking, reading andwriting skills for the purposes of business interaction and academic study, especiallyto be able to tackle the international IELTS test of English proficiency (or equivalent, e.g. TOEFL) for study purposes. Students should also be able to produce academic and business texts written in a reader-friendly and accurate style and be able to work in a team to run an interactive workshop session on a current business topic in English.
Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools
Communicative methodology with peer and teacher feedback, online inputs, and training tasks.
Students work in teams to plan & run workshop sessions on subject-specialist topics; online and teacher-mediated training for IELTS test formats; teacher, print& digital inputs;
reader-friendly business/academic writing - process writing with individual feedback (feedback-editing loop);
pair & groupwork; Moodle activities and training tasks.
Course content
- Study-related topics selected by students for team workshop sessions and individual special-interest academic/business papers
- Team workshop presentations - presenting study topics in an interactive style, combining subject focus, presentation techniques and team work
- Reader-friendly business and academic writing
- Speaking training - IELTS topics, workshop-style presentations, academic discussion
- Listening training - advanced listening, range of accents, topics, communicative situation including academic (based on IELTS & TOEFL training materials)
- Training in reading academic texts & handling IELTS questions, speed reading, vocabulary building

- Vocabulary development (business vocabulary)
- Issues in English grammar for business communication
Prior knowledge expected
Students must already have passed English I and English II on the AAU Business Administration undergraduate English programme, or have gained credit for equivalent courses taken at other institutions.

Learning Outcome
Training towards the IELTS test (International English Language Testing System). Students train their listening, speaking and reading writing skills for the purposes of business interaction and academic study. Special focus on training reader-friendly business and academic writing. Also training in speaking English as part of a team to run a seminar-style workshop session.
