Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

This course is parallel to the main lecture and covers most of its topics. By the end of the course the student will acquire different skills and methodologies to solve simple problems related to signal processing and communication systems.

Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools

Recap of what has been taught in the lecture. Different assignments to be solved at home and corrected in the class. Final project assignment.

Course content

Basics of the theory of signals:

- Definition and properties of a signal. Signal transformations. Most common signals

- Fourier series and Fourier transform

- Convolution

- Unified theory of signals

Basics of communications:

- Structure of a communication system

- Basic analog transmission schemes (DSB, SSB, AM, FM)

Examination information

Im Fall von online durchgeführten Prüfungen sind die Standards zu beachten, die die technischen Geräte der Studierenden erfüllen müssen, um an diesen Prüfungen teilnehmen zu können.

Examination methodology

Assignments, written test and final project.

Examination topic(s)

The written test will be done before the final project and consists of a series of exercises similar to those solved in the assignments.

The final project consists of the simulation of a communication chain in Matlab.

Assessment criteria / Standards of assessment for examinations

Assignments: 10%

Written test: 65%

Final project: 25%

The students need to pass both the tests to get a positive grade.
