Intendierte Lernergebnisse

(a) Understand the process of creating new venture in general and in the context of the media sector in particular; (b) Identify and analyze media entrepreneurship; (c) Conceptualize the creation and launching new media ventures using business models, social networks, and digital tools; (d) Get a broader understanding of sustainable media/journalistic ventures in the context of ethics and social responsibility.

Lehrmethodik inkl. Einsatz von eLearning-Tools

Interactive lecture, team work (presentations and discussions in class), reflection questions on readings, and individual written essay on a selected topic.

Inhalt/e

The development of new technologies, foremost of the Internet, has caused a shift in the market power of large media enterprises towards new small media initiatives and organizations. Students will learn the foundations of entrepreneurship while putting emphasis on journalism and media entrepreneurship. Media firms are not solely commercial entities, but they often act in public interest, aim to change the world or just attempt to provide artistic/cultural value, entertainment or intellectual stimulation. Students will learn successful business models of new media ventures which  simultaneously create economic and social value. Besides, there will be discussion on  ethics in the context of the growing phenomenon of freelance journalism.

Im Fall von online durchgeführten Prüfungen sind die Standards zu beachten, die die technischen Geräte der Studierenden erfüllen müssen, um an diesen Prüfungen teilnehmen zu können.

Prüfungsmethode/n

The final grade covers: (a) presentation in class (b)participation in discussions, and (c) individual written essay. Students will have about four weeks to complete the written assignment
