Course content
In today’s mediatized society the global flow of information is regarded as a fundamental driving force and an integral part of everyday life (Livingstone, 2009). Rapid developments in media technologies engender global mediatization processes. In this context, mediatization research has evolved into a fruitful and highly beneficial perspective of communication and media science (Krotz, 2014) and provides insights into the complex interrelation of media impacts on society and the individual. Yet, the challenge that mediatization research faces is grasping the emotional communication in social media and to understand the multitude of dimensions of online communication from the user’s perspective. How do social media lead to digital and highly emotional communities? This will be analyzed in this seminar based on interdisciplinary perspectives.
