Intended learning outcomes
The ideas, key concepts, and notation used in the applied and theoretical finance literature.
The basic skills required to understand and develop basic applied or theoretical finance arguments.
Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools
Lecture and group work.
Course content
Einführung in die Grundlagen der Betrieblichen Finanzierung mit Schwerpunkt auf strategischen Gesichtspunkten.
Topics:
- Corporate governance: contracts, stakeholders, structure
- Company valuation: net present value, cash flow & alternatives
- Mergers & acquisitions: takeovers, joint ventures, divestitures
- Corporate strategy: market share, research & development, advertising
- Executive compensation: principal-agent, partnerships
- Financial markets: Modigliani-Miller theorem, leverage, risk

Examination information
Examination methodology
Assessment is by means of a two-hour, unseen, closed book exam accounting for 80% of the final grade. The take-home problem set performance enters the finale grade with 20%. Prerequisite for exam admission is the satisfactory completion of at least one take-home problem set.

Examined will be all lecture material, problem sets, and the assigned (background) reading.
