Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

The ideas, key concepts, and notation used in the applied and theoretical inequality literature.

The basic skills required to understand and develop basic applied or theoretical inequality arguments.

Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools

Lectures and group work.

Course content

Introduction to the Political Economy of Inequality.

Topics:

  • Income and Capital
  • The Dynamics of the Capital/Income Ratio
  • The Structure of Inequality 
  • Regulating Capital in the 21st Century 
  • Relation of the US Debate to Europe

Examination information

Im Fall von online durchgeführten Prüfungen sind die Standards zu beachten, die die technischen Geräte der Studierenden erfüllen müssen, um an diesen Prüfungen teilnehmen zu können.

Examination methodology

Assessment is by means of a two-hour, unseen, closed book exam accounting for 80% of the final grade. The take-home problem set performance enters the finale grade with 20%. Prerequisite for exam admission is the satisfactory completion of at least one take-home problem set.

Examined will be all lecture  material, problem sets, and the assigned (background) reading.
