Inhalt/e
This research forum provides students with an overview of some of the most important literary and cultural theories and their historical genesis from the liberal humanism of the 19th century to some of the most recent theoretical approches. We will critically engage with the central ideas and concepts of these various "isms" and discuss what can be gained from applying them to a cultural text within the framework of a seminar paper or thesis project.
Among the approaches we will discuss are:
New Criticism, Formalism, and Structuralism
Social theories of literature
Psychoanalytic Criticism
Post-structuralism and Deconstruction
Feminist Criticism, Gender Studies and Queer Theory
Postcolonial Criticism
Ecocriticism
Psychoanalytic Criticism and Cognitive Narratology
Literatur

All other texts will be provided by the instructor.
