In December 2016 the British FilmInstitute (BFI) announced the release of "The Pleasure Principle", acollection of British erotic films dating from 1896 to the early years of the21st century. This collection offers a guide to illicit celluloid pleasures, from teasing Victorian views of corsets and petticoats to artistic slow motionnudity to Soho’s finest cheesecake pin-ups captured on 8mm film in the 1950sand 60s, as well as a selection of taboo-breaking feature films anddocumentaries.
The Pleasure Principle will bethe main focus of this research forum. We will not only analyse individualfilms from the collectioin, but also investigate the nature of the collectionitself: What is its purpose? Which films have been selected and why? What arethe strenghts and weaknesses of the Collection?
