Intended learning outcomes

This course is a continuation of Introduction to Literary Studies I, the focus being on longer narrative texts (novels), films (this also includes drama) and theories of literature, i.e. different schools of literary criticism and their comments on the core texts. Moreover, students will be asked to write a research paper in the area of literary studies.

Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools

Interactive class including both teacher- and student-led projects.

Course content

(1) Novels: Emily Bronte: Wuthering Heights; Joseph Conrad: Heart of Darkness;

(2) Films: Wuthering Heights (1939; Dir. William Wyler); Wuthering Heights (1991; Dir. Peter Kosminsky)

(3) Selected secondary sources.

(4) Literary History: 19th and 20tz century British literature;

(5) How to write a research paper in the area of literary studies.

Prior knowledge expected

Successful completion of Introduction to Literary Studies I.
