Course Information
Intended learning outcomes
The aim of this course, which is a continuation to Introduction to Literary Studies I (a,b), is to help students gain the skills necessary in the analysis and interpretation of a literary text (i.e. a novel, short story, poem, a play). To this end, students in this course will be first introduced to the literary and cultural theory that will help them conduct a textual analysis within a theoretical frame, and then will be given the opportunity to work with diverse literary texts so as to develop their analytical skills. At the end of the course, it is expected that students will be able to analyse and interpret a literary text independent of any teacher guidance.
Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools
The class will be conducted through lecture, class discussions, and group work. Participants will be expected to give papers on a selected topic either individually or in groups/pairs.
Course content
The texts (selected novels, novellas, poems, short stories, plays) to be analysed in class will be announced with the start of the semester.
The literary analysis and interpretation of the texts wil be started after the introdution to literary and cultural theory.
