Intended learning outcomes
The objectives of the course are the following: 1. Give participants a framework and a common “language” to understand the problems and the challenges which an Operations Manager has to face in his/her job. 2. Give participants an understanding of the strategic relevance of Operations Management. 3. Give participants an understanding of the main decisions (strategic, tactical and operative) an Operations Manager has to take. 4. Give participants an understanding of the main OM principles, techniques and tools to analyze, diagnose and then to improve processes. 5. Give participants the opportunity to improve their practical and applied skills using extensively group based CASE STUDIES and SIMULATIONS 6. Make participants improve their analytical and teamwork skills |
Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools
The extensive use of group-based CASE STUDIES and SIMULATIONS will be supported by introductory theory-based lectures and follow-up cases and simulation debriefing sessions

This course structure is divided the following sections:
Part 1: Operations Management STRATEGIES and PERFORMANCE
- Operations Management strategies and decisions in OM
- Performance Measurement: measuring productivity and service levels
Part 2: The (S&OP) Sales & Operations Planning process
- Push vs Pull production approaches
- The Production Planning Process (Long, Medium, Short term)
Part 3: LEAN production
- Principles and performance
- Techniques
Part 4: From Operations Management to Supply Chain Management
- The Bullwhip effect
- Collaboration practices

Examination methodology
The test contents for Individual Final Exam (50% of grade) are composed by all the materials distributed (including cases and simulations debriefing sessions) and discussions in class

The testing methods will be composed by the following MIX:
- Group works and presentations on CASES and SIMULATIONS (30% of grade)
- Individual Class participation and contribution (20% of grade)
- Individual Final Exam (50% of grade)
