Intendierte Lernergebnisse

During the course, students will learn the fundamental tools to model complex systems and evaluate their performances.

Lehrmethodik

Frontal lecture

Inhalt/e

Several real systems like communications networks, multi robot systems, autonomous transportations and financial markets, are dynamic and stochastic. The output of these systems depends on the system's states, and the evolution of the state over time is stochastic. Although, such systems can be very complex, a good understanding of their behavior and their performance is needed to make decisions, e.g. dimensioning the system. 

The first part of the course focuses on stochastic processes. Then, this knowledge is used to build mathematical models,  emphasizing the connection between physical problems and models. Lastly, the models are used to evaluate the system performance.

Contents:

- generalities on stochastic processes 

- models of stochastic processes (Bernoulli, Poisson, Markov)

- queuing theory

- elements of network science
