Course Information
Intended learning outcomes
At the end of this foundation course students should have done approx. 30 hours of interactive training in English to help them build up confidence and fluency. Written tasks should train them in the basics of reader-friendly communicative business writing.
Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools
Communicative methodology, process writing training, short teacher and other inputs combined with communicative student tasks and presentations practice.
Course content
Presentation skills, communicative writing for business especially e-mails telephoning - info exchange, sales calls, calls to deal with problems, social English - small talk, general and personal topics, conversation, presenting numbers in English. Using the internet as a resource, readings from business press, grammar review, vocabulary building.
- Able to hold a short, effective, well-structured business presentation
- Able to write a range of short text types (e-mails, proposal, presenting numbers) to handle everyday business situations
- Able to make a clear and convincing business call in English to realise a communicative aim
- Able to write, present and handle simple discussion of numbers and sums of money in English
- Unassessed conversation practice (social English)
- Practice in reading the business press
