Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

Students should become familiar with the main concepts of English for Specific Purposes. These include an overview of the principal fields of ESP, the nature of specific language, the reason why adults wish to learn (their "need"), and the interplay between the teacher and the participant which fulfils that need.  

Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools

The CTTD approach, (context, text, task, discussion) focusses on the specific need and the language used to satisfy it, while seeing satisfactory discussion, deliberation and conversation as the overall goal. Students hold two teaching sessions, a Mini- (7 minutes) and a Maxi- (10-15 minutes with a partner).

Students choose the field that interests them, or in which they are especially proficient.

Various textbooks or workbooks on ESP, listening materials, online materials etc. 

Examination information

Im Fall von online durchgeführten Prüfungen sind die Standards zu beachten, die die technischen Geräte der Studierenden erfüllen müssen, um an diesen Prüfungen teilnehmen zu können.

Examination methodology

Grades are given for Attendance and Contribution, the Teaching Sessions, and the Reflection Paper (Language Quality and Content). These are averaged out to produce the semester grade.

The students determine the field of ESP they wish to concentrate on.

Assessment criteria / Standards of assessment for examinations

These include structure and preparation, willingness to listen, spontaneity, reacting to unforeseen events, language clarity and pronunciation quality.
