Intendierte Lernergebnisse
Students will learn the basics of how to construct an academic essay. As the basis for the end-of-term essay, students will read short stories by Oscar Wilde and will learn how to address primary and secondary sources.
Inhalt/e
This course provides an opportunity for students to practice and develop their academic writing skills in English. Some of the topics that will be covered are the structure and organization of academic texts, the nature and purpose of paragraphs, the development of coherent pieces of writing, the issue of plagiarism, and how to write term papers.
In addition to extensive in-class, peer, and teacher feedback, students are expected to engage in self-directed learning and should avail themselves of the provided materials to improve their writing.

- avoiding plagiarism
- organizing writing
- conventions of academic style
- peer review/feedback
NB - This course is a two-hour course (not ninety minutes). The first meeting will be on March 7.

Prüfungsinformationen
Beurteilungskriterien/-maßstäbe
The grading for this course will be based on:
- a timed, in-class essay
- an outside-of-class research-based essay.
Both pieces must have a pass grade in order to pass the course.
Students are also required to complete multiple in-class and homework assignments throughout the course of the term. These will comprise a portfolio that students will compile and improve over the course of the semester.
