In this proseminar, we will watch and discuss a number of American fiction films that engage with important moments in US American history from the first period of colonization up to the Great Depression. Relevant films include award-winning Hollywood productions such as Michael Mann’s Last of the Mohicans, Steve McQueen’s12 Years a Slave, Edward Zwick’s Glory, John Ford’s Stagecoach, Brian de Palma’s The Untouchables, and John Ford’s The Grapes of Wrath.
