Inhalt/e
Adaptation Theory:
Focus on contemporary movies, which rely heavily on the transfer of video game themed works, in whole or in part.
Primarily tackling the unique features of video games and movies, the students are encouraged to learn the basic principles of each medium and see how movies create new visual experiences on the very basis of already existing video game worlds – with or without failing to address what makes video games special and, as a result, creating an often debatable outcome. Specific examples, taken from various ages throughout the history of video games and movies, highlight the importance of taking a closer look at adaptation processes.
Topics (full list to be announced):
- ‘What does adaptation theory mean?’
- Movies: Language, techniques, genres and basic parameters.
- Video Games I: Aesthetics, basic rules, storytelling, interactivity, immersion, audiovisual aspects.
- History: Revolution and evolution
- Video Games II: How to mediate emotions through audiovisual mechanics.
- Adaptation I: Various approaches to tackle this type of derivative work.
- Adaptation II: The basis of adaptation theory – tactics and strategies on how to ‘translate’ other works into video games.
Carefully chosen examples which make the subject easier to understand and highlight specific adaptation processes: to be announced.
