Conditions of admission

This a course for students NEAR THE END of their B.A. study programme (old "Speaking 2"). this requires the successful completion of: Pronunciation;Language 1&2;Speaking1; - and preferably Reading,Listening 1 as well. Or their equivalents in the new curriculum.

Course content

In-depth contexts and narratives - in oral form. Ability to impart and discuss content and context.

Topics

POSSIBLES: (choices to be discussed in the 1st session)
Short stories by anglophone writers. Putting Africa on the 'map'
Works by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie - "Americanah" or "Half of a Yellow Sun"
Works by Iain McEwan - specifically "The Children Act"
Works by Neil Gaiman - specifically his graphic novels; maybe and/or "Coraline"
THE TOPICS INCLUDE:
War and Migration
Identity
Morality
Religion, free will
Education
Crime and punishment; guilt and retribution
Family and identity

Teaching objective

Improving oral, discussion and persuasion skills.

Prior knowledge expected
