LV-Beschreibung
Lehrmethodik inkl. Einsatz von eLearning-Tools
The classes will be mostly organised as discussions and problem-solving sessions. In the introductory sections of the course, the discussion will primarily focus on the theoretical considerations regarding negation in English. With theoretical concepts established, the focus will shift to practical implementation and critical evaluation.Inhalt/e
The interest in negation as a unique and universal feature of human languages has always instigated much linguistic and linguistic-related research. By focussing on negation in English, the objective of this course is to investigate the properties of negation as a linguistic phenomenon from different linguistic and linguistic-related perspectives. In particular, the course explores the following topics:Themen
- negation in natural languages vs. negation in logic,
- the morphology of negation in English,
- the syntax of negation in English,
- multiple negation, negative concord and double negation,
- diachronic and synchronic analysis of negation in English,
- negation and phraseological units,
- implied negation and irony.
