Intended learning outcomes
Acquirean overview of and experience with methods for robust design and reliability engineering.
Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools
Mechatronicsystems achieve perform more and more tasks autonomously and in networkedcooperation. Thus, it is of extreme importance that the systems are reliableunder all operation conditions and can tolerate certain of parameters and otherrandom deviations. This course offers an overview of the concepts andintroduction to important methods for the design of robust and dependablesystems. The course links methods from robust design, optimization andreliability engineering with the design process for sensors and actuators. Inthe accompanying exercise the methods will be applied to sensor and actuatorexamples.

Introduction to Functional Safety
Methods for improvement of reliability
Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA)
Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Reliability Block Diagram (RBD)
Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)
Fault Injection
Experimental Design (DOE) (Factorial Design, Screening, Taguchi, Classical, Bayesian), Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)
Robust Design – Definition of Target Functions
