Course Information

Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools

-Simulation Software AnyLogic -Teamwork -Presentation of results

Course content

This course gives an overview about simulation modelling with focus on discrete-event modelling, system dynamics and agent-based modelling. These three modelling techniques are linked to operations management, logistics and supply chain network design to visualize real world processes to conduct forecasts and optimization. The understanding of simulation modelling is supported by basic concepts, including queuing theory, data collection and data analysis, probability distribution functions and Monte Carlo simulation. Proceedings of simulation modelling and output analysis are presented to enable students to create their own models and to perform experiments. Models are created with the simulation software AnyLogic PLE.

Topics

  • Probability distribution functions
  • System dynamics
  • Agend-based modelling
  • Supply chain network design
  • Data collection and data analysis
  • Model output analysis
  • Optimization

Teaching objective

After this course students have knowledge about the fundamentals of simulation modelling and are able to use appropriate software to create simple simulation models. Furthermore, the know how to structure a simulation project and to analyse the results.

Literature

Chopra, S and Meindl, P. (2013): Supply Chain Management. Strategy, Planning and Operation, fifth Edition, Pearson. Sterman, J.D. (2000): Business Dynamics. Systems Thinking and Modelling for a complex World, Irwin McGraw-Hill. Borshchev, A. (2013): The Big Book of Simulation Modeling. Multimethod Modeling with AnyLogic 6, AnyLogic North America.
