Course content
1. General Introduction to Telecommunication Systems (PSTN, PLMN (1G-5G), Transport Systems (SDH/SONET), Access Networks (DSL, WLL), Satellite Networks, Signaling Networks (SS7), All-IP Networks, Internet (Network topology, TCP/IP Suite, Services)) [2 weeks] 2. General Telecommunication Principles (Telecom signals; Transmission Media; Modulation Techniques; Receiver Architectures; Multiplexing principles; Switching Principles) [3 weeks] 3. Mathematical Challenges in Telecommunications System Design and Optimization + A survey of modeling and Simulation Tools [1-2 weeks] 4. Selected Mathematical Basics (Graph Theory; Traffic Theory; Reliability and Availability modeling Basics; Discrete Optimization Basics) [4-5 weeks] 5. General Design Methodology of Telecommunication Systems [1-2 weeks] 6. Students Seminars on selected topics: see systems examples listed in chapter 1 [2 weeks]Examination information
