Lecture part by teachers Study work ("projects") and presentations by students

Inhalt/e

This course combines an introduction into basic methods and recent developments in multimedia coding with a discussion of their application in systems of the telecom and media industries, and consists of a lecturing part and a self-study part. The lecturing part starts with an introduction of the essentials of digital signal processing enabling the student to understand the basic principles of media coding. Subsequently, the various coding approaches for audio, image and video signals are addressed, as well as transmission aspects. Building on this, the application of the presented technologies in systems of the media and telecom industries is discussed from the technical as well as from the market angle. Following the lecturing part, the students are expected to carry out a study of one particular current technology or system, prepare a set of presentation slides and give a talk to the study group about the topic.

Prüfungsinformationen

Beurteilungskriterien/-maßstäbe

Self-study on a selected topic, preparation of a slide set and oral presentation. The disputation of the presentation will include a few exam questions regarding the topics presented in the lecture.
