Intendierte Lernergebnisse

The acquired knowledge allows students to understand the interconnections between economic variables and relationships; the tradeoff between different uses of resources; the tendency towards market equilibria; the role of fiscal and monetary policies; the complexity of economic adjustments and the difference between their actions in the short, medium and long run.

Students will be able to follow the national and international economic policy debate on topics such as growth, unemployment, inflation, public debt and economic-political integrations. The course will stimulate students’ ability to analyze and critically evaluate economic systems and stimulate students to conceive other economic phenomena and production-consumption models, both at individual and aggregate levels.

Lehrmethodik inkl. Einsatz von eLearning-Tools

Teaching classes are a mix of both in-class frontal and online lessons. Online lessons will be recorded and available on MOODLE - BBB. 

Flipped classroom, case studies presentations and student assessments on selected topics complete the teaching methodologies.

Inhalt/e

The course focuses on the fundamental concepts of macroeconomics. Some analytical tools are proposed to understand business trends and international policies, capital and workers’ flows, transnational organizations fiscal and monetary policies, global trade and financial balances. The last part of the course sheds light on Sustainable Development theories and Circular Economy models and how they inspire economic development, enhancing standard measurements from quantitative to qualitative approaches to international growth.

-> Concepts and history of economic systems 

-> Factors and sectors of production

-> Output growth, unemployment and inflation

-> Business cycles and Economic growth

-> Concepts, principles and dimensions of the international economy

-> The balance of payments and the balance of trade

-> Theories and realities of international trade

-> The international mobility of labor and capital

-> Multinational companies and global value chains

-> Exchange rates, currency areas, monetary policies

-> Monetary systems and financial markets

-> GDP and the Myth of Perpetual Growth

-> Beyond GDP: Quantity and quality of growth

-> The triple-bottom line and sustainable businesses

-> SDGs development goals and Agenda 2030

-> Fair Trade, Microfinance, Ethical banking and investment

-> Circular economy, Green economy, Blue economy: differences and similarities
