All persons from the age of 17 can be admitted, provided that there are enough free course places available. Please note that only one language course can be taken in a semester. Registration must be made within the specified registration deadlines in the language course office, east building, 2nd floor, room # O.2.04.

Intended learning outcomes

Das Erreichen jenes Sprachniveaus gemäß GER (Gemeinsamer Europäischer Referenzrahmen für Sprachen), das für den Kurs (Einstufungstest & Kurszuteilung der Teilnehmer/innen in der Lektorenkonferenz) festgelegt wurde. 

Teaching methodology

Den Kursmethoden liegt die Methodik des sprachhandlungsorientierten bzw. kommunikativen Fremdsprachenunterrichts zugrunde. Im Vordergrund stehen dabei die Formen des Sprachhandelns, in die die Vermittlung des Sprachsystems integriert wird.

Course content

 Die Kursinhalte orientieren sich am festgelegten Sprachlernniveau und setzen sich aus den Formen des Sprachhandelns (Sprechen, Hören, Schreiben, Lesen) sowie der begleitenden Vermittlung des Sprachsystems (Wortschatz, Grammatik) zusammen.

Literature

Wörterbücher (Muttersprache-Zielsprache v. v.) sind von den Studierenden mitzubringen. Lehr- und Übungsbücher werden von den Kursleiter/inne/n zu Beginn des jeweiligen Semesters ausgegeben.

Intended learning outcomes

As it is the aim of the course to reach the set language level, participants will be told the language level of their course and the specific course aims at the beginning of the semester. The various language levels correspond to the Common European Framework of Reference for Language Learning and Teaching (A1-A2-B1-B2-C1-C2).                                        


Teaching methodology

Course methods are based on the communicative way of foreign language teaching. Teaching is focused on communication whereby grammatical structures and syntax are instructed.

Course contents are based on the identified language learning level. The course consists of the training of the passive and active communication skills (speaking - listening - writing – reading) as well as the teaching of grammatical structures and vocabulary.

Literature

Course books chosen in agreement with the participants and in accordance to the language level.        

Bilingual dictionaries should be brought by the students. Course books will be distributed by the teachers at the beginning of the semester.

Examination information

Im Fall von online durchgeführten Prüfungen sind die Standards zu beachten, die die technischen Geräte der Studierenden erfüllen müssen, um an diesen Prüfungen teilnehmen zu können.

Examination methodology

Der Lernerfolg der Teilnehmer/innen wird anhand von Zwischen- und Schlusstests ermittelt. Mündliche Tests, aktive Mitarbeit und Hausübungen sind erforderlich. Je nach Kursniveau sind auch Referate möglich. Die Teilnehmer/innen erhalten von den Lehrveranstaltungsleiter/inne/n regelmäßiges Feedback zum Lernfortschritt. Maximal 3 Termine dürfen versäumt werden. Eine positive Beurteilung in allen Teilbereichen ist Voraussetzung für ein positives Abschlusszeugnis.

Assessment criteria / Standards of assessment for examinations

Anwesenheit, Mitarbeit, Abgabe schriftlicher Aufgaben

Die Zwischen- und Schlusstests sind ähnlich aufgebaut wie der Einstufungstest zu Beginn des Semesters. Sie orientieren sich an den Niveaustufen des Gemeinsamen Europäischen Referenzrahmens für Sprachen (GER). Überprüft werden die Fähigkeiten in Hörverstehen, Leseverstehen, selbständigem Ausdruck, Textbildung und Interaktion.

Examination methodology

The learning success of the participants is determined, documented and finally ombined in the final assessment by means of intermediate tests as well as a final test at the end of the semester. Oral exams, active participation and homework are requested. Depending on the course level presentations can be requested. The participants receive regular feedback from the lecturers about their learning process. You are not allowed to miss more than three sessions in order to get a certificate by the end of the course. Only in case of positive results in all skills you receive a positive certificate.

Assessment criteria / Standards of assessment for examinations

Presence, active participation, completion of written homework.

The intermediate tests and completion tests are similar to the placement test at the beginning of the semester. They are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The existing skills in listening comprehension, reading comprehension, indipendent expression, text formation and interaction are examined.
