LV-Beschreibung

Lehrmethodik inkl. Einsatz von eLearning-Tools

in-class activities with input and group activities,
writing and walking activities during travel workshops;
all online-activities will be provided via Moodle

Inhalt/e

At the heart of travel writing lies curiosity, which can also be seen as a quest for knowledge. This course offers an introduction into the cultural practises to writing and travelling, establishing various techniques for travel writing.

In the course “Writing the city: Klagenfurt” students will make some guided walks around the university, each following a research topic. From model texts students will understand the role of note taking and note making during these expeditions. Therefore, students will analyze and respond to these texts, describe their own perceptions and document their experiences.

The course is structured into

  • 1 writing workshop at the beginnen, presenting the most common writing techniques and some organisational information (at university)
  • 3 travel writing workshops, where students discover defined cultural spaces following the research topics (walking & writing)
  • 1 workshop on writing and revision, where the writing process from taking notes to polished texts will be mapped (at university)
  • 1 feedback setting at the end of the semester (online)

Important information

  • Please make sure that you have access to Moodle during the whole semester.
  • Please be aware that we really will walk around during the travel writing workshops (workshops 2, 3 and 4 ): appropriate shoes and clothes (Sunglasses? Sun-hat? Raincoat? Umbrella?…) will be necessary!
  • Dominant language at this course will be English (material, instructions...). You may consider ensuring you have access to a dictionary – online or via app (dict.cc or leo.org).
