Intendierte Lernergebnisse

Students can explain and discuss the main theoretical aspects. They are informed about key concepts and can apply strategies in public and global policy negotiations.

Inhalt/e

  • Theoretical background of negotiations
  • Negotiations on national and supranational level (and the differences to negotiations in the private sector)
  • Cultural effects on negotiations (culture as a term, strategies for coping with cultural differences...) 
  • Theory of Conflict in the context of the public sector (conflict development, avoidance and resolution) 
  • Strategies for overcoming conflicts in policy or public sector negotiations 

  • Characteristics of negotiations on global issues (climate crisis, stability of the public financial system, current and potential military conflicts, human rights...).

The assessments for this course take place in the form of:

  • midterm written exam (50% of the grade)
  • preparation of a role play in the second half of the term, active participation and presentations during class (50% of final grade)
