NB: The course information is subject to change until the 09/02
Understand the core tenets of the GSE Master's programme. Develop self-awareness of what your role is in relation to the Game Industry as a future career. Learn how you can apply your skills in the gaming sphere. Develop critical thinking skills and explore how you can analyse games and texts on an academic level.
At the end of the seminar, students have acquired the skill to be self-sufficient and autonomous in their further studies of the GSE programme.
This course is taught by tutors also studying the GSE Master's programme and may feature guest lecturers.
Lehrmethodik
On-campus sessions with mandatory attendance for the first block seminar, homework assignments, and one asynchronous session.

Extra-curricular voluntary work by students will not be taken into consideration in the grading.
Provide properly cited sources (17th edition of Chicago Manual of Style format) on all your assignments:
Have a look at the departmental policy. Students caught plagiarising will be removed from class immediately.

Inhalt/e
The seminar provides a foundational overview of what the GSE programme requires from students in terms of organisation and formalities. Additionally, it gives the tools to access information provided through the library system and the university's electronic platforms.
PLEASE NOTE: This semester's KCGL is designed for first-semester students of GSE. If you want to participate in the KCGLs as in previous years, please check out the Open learning space tutorial - Game Studies and Engineering 000.330. If you are a new GSE student, you are welcome to participate in both.
Literatur
Part of the literature analysed in this class will be picked from other classes of the GSE programme to ensure a comprehensive understanding.

Homework assignments:
These assignments will assess the student’s skills in
writing out citations according to the Chicago Manual of Style (Author, Date, 17th edition)
finding relevant academic resources using the library
summarizing an academic paper
critically and academically discuss a game
interacting on Moodle
(Worth 40% of the final mark)
Pitch presentation:
The students are asked to give a 5-minute presentation to introduce themselves and their skills/role relevant to the Gaming Industry, detailing what they want to achieve.
(Worth 25% of the final mark)
