Intendierte Lernergebnisse
Students will acquire insights into selected psychological functions, effects and constitutions of the human mind. Connected to videogames and people in the videogame industry. They will develop a deeper self-awareness and contextualised understanding of human beings, presented and offered through various selected examples and game titles.
Note: Detailed instructions on how this class is going to function are going to be provided by your lecturer. The modalities may vary.
Lehrmethodik
Lecture sessions and inputs with discussions of selected topics.
Inhalt/e
A psychological point of view on players, developers and games. Mental health, human mind mechanisms, wellbeing, toxic play, the videogame industry (as a workplace). Exploring selected aspects.
Note: Some content in this course will include topics that some students may find offensive and/or triggering. The lecturer will provide you with advance notice about potentially disturbing content and will ask everyone to help create an atmosphere of mutual respect and sensitivity.
Erwartete Vorkenntnisse
Note: Be aware of the Master’s Programme Game Studies and Engineering Code of Conduct for basic ground rules (find it within the Game Studies and Engineering Moodle Forum).
Note: No matter what your background is, make yourself familiar with Chicago Manual of Style (16th edition), author/date references. This is expected for all your written work (papers and presentation write-up).

The final grade is a combination of continuous assessment throughout the semester.
