Intendierte Lernergebnisse
Following this course, it is expected that students will have a better understanding of and increased familiarity with the origins and treatment of mental health disorders.
Modules will cover the following topics:
- Biopsychosocial origins of mental health disorders and case formulation
- Biomedical interventions for disorders such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, addiction etc.)
- Theoretical underpinnings of psychosocial interventions commonly utilized to address the above-mentioned mental health disorders (e.g. interventions that are cognitively, behaviorally and/or humanistically informed)
- Practical elements of psychosocial interventions for disorders such as anxiety and depression e.g. CBT
- Practical elements of psychosocial interventions as they apply to disorders such addiction/substance use (e.g. person-centered/humanistic therapy, motivational interviewing, transtheoretical/wheel of change etc.)
- Practical elements of psychosocial interventions as they apply to such disorders as ADHD and BPD etc. (e.g. DBT, MBCT & ACT)
- Empirical evidence base for such interventions (e.g. longitudinal/cross sectional; correlation/causation; quantitative/qualitative research, RCTs/clinically derived results etc.)
- Comorbidity of mental health disorders and integrative and transtheoretical interventions
Lehrmethodik
In this course, we will learn about the theoretical and practical aspects of the subject matter through the medium of slides, group discussions, research articles etc.
Inhalt/e
This course aims to provide students with an overview of the biological (e.g. genetics), psychological (thoughts and emotions) and social (socio-economic, socio-environmental and cultural) factors involved in the development of mental health disorders as well as the evidence-based treatment options available
