In diesem Kurs werden Studierende lernen sich kritisch mit Musiktexten zu beschäftigen, mit speziellem Fokus auf den Ausdruck von Unzufriedenheit und revolutionären Einstellungen.

Course content

Musiktexte aus verschiedenen Genres, wie zum Beispiel, Rock, Hip-Hop, Punk, Heavy Metal und entsprechende Sub-genres.

Intended learning outcomes

Music and music lyrics are incredibly powerful tools to communicate emotions and have been used countless times to highlight social injustices and voice criticism. Certain genres of music cater to a revolutionary spirit in particular, for example, rock, hip-hop, punk, and heavy metal. As a distinguished form of poetry, music lyrics enjoy a distinctive status in literary criticism, epitomized by the awarding of the Nobel prize in literature to Bob Dylan. In this class students will critically engage music lyrics, from various different genres, with special regard to their expression of criticism of social imbalances and dissatisfaction with political systems and leadership.

Course content

music lyrics from various different genres, including but not limited to rock, hip-hop, punk, and heavy metal, as well as respective sub-genres.
