Intendierte Lernergebnisse
Upon completion of this course students will have participated in the preparation, rehearsal, and multiple performances of their own theatre production of Stephen Carleton’s The Turquoise Elephant. They will have practiced working together as a team and, depending on their individual role in the production, have trained their skills in acting, costume or set design, or stage management. Moreover, students will have engaged critically with the play, and the genre of cli-fi drama, from both a scholar’s as well as practitioner’s perspective.

Join S.O.S. (Students on Stage), the English Departments newly formed students' theatre group for its very first production!
You will work in close collaboration with fellow students to stage a production of Stephen Carleton’s The Turquoise Elephant (2016). The darkly comic political farce by the Australian playwright imagines a world like ours but “with the dial turned up”. The last snow on Kilimanjaro is melting, rising sea levels flood Melbourne’s sewage system but the three women of the deeply privileged and deep-pocketed Maquarie family watch the environmental cataclysm taking place outside from safely behind triple-glazing. One of them has brought opera glasses.
The production will be directed by Sabine Kristof-Kranzelbinder, director of the Kammerlichtspiele Klagenfurt, in collaboration with Prof. Julia Hoydis and BA MA Elena Ippendorf. Performances are scheduled to take place on June 29, 30, and July 1 at the Kammerlichtspiele. The rehearsal schedule will be discussed in the first session; details can also be found on Moodle.
