Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

Following an introduction to contemporary Irish society and its transition from a multicultural to an intercultural society along with the development of the 'Celtic Tiger era', the course will aim at exploring contemporary Irish society, with focus on the post-Celtic Tiger era, via the analysis and discussion of selected plays by contemporary Irish dramatists as well as migrant dramatists. At the end of the course, students will have gained knowledge of contemporary Irish society and culture with focus on the Celtic and post-Celtic Tiger Ireland and interculturalism. It is also expected that students who have completed this course will be able to critically analyse and discuss issues related to the social and cultural context of contemporary Ireland, and will have an appreciation for the Irish playwrights and plays representative of contemporary Ireland since the 1990s.

Teaching methodology

This course will be conducted through lectures, student presentations and plenary discussions.
