LV-Beschreibung

Intendierte Lernergebnisse

The aim of this course is to familiarise students with women's political theatre of the early twentieth century (1908-1914), which is known as the 'suffragette theatre' and took its source from the major developments seen at the turn of the twentieth century in British society as part of women's struggle for the right to vote. Selected major plays representative of this period (e.g. Votes for Women!) will be discussed in detail and within their social, historical and political contexts. At the end of the course, it is expected that students have developed an understanding of suffragette theatre and drama, have been familiarised with the leading female playwrights of the period, and can discuss and interpret the suffragette plays produced within their social, historical and political contexts.
